Dealing with a Video Game backlog?

Just as it is with everything in life when we over commit ourselves we tend to fall behind drastically. In this case I’d like to focus on something specific which is my video game backlog. Being a fan and collector of video games as well as a contributor to a video gaming publication, I’m quite lucky to have access to a large library of video games. I always say that this is both a curse and gift.

So where’s the problem you ask?? Well even though I might have a pretty decent collection of games I still have other responsibilities in life. Being a husband, father of two gorgeous little girls, working in a 9-5 job and writing for the publication literally reduces anytime I have to play. More times than often even my weekends are swallowed up by errands. And to make matters worst (or better on where you stand with genre favorites) I am a HUGE fan of JRPGs, although I do own and collect other genres as well. Included in my current backlog that I intend on playing and finishing within the next few months are The World Ends with You (NDS),  Tales of Xillia 1 + 2 (PS3), Final Fantasy Fables ChoCobos Dungeon (Wii), The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening (GB) and Final Fantasy Type-0 (PS4).

Unfortunately I’ve not really discovered a solution or solid plan on combating this ‘problem’ so I put it to you, how does one deal with their video game backlogs?
