So you’re probably wondering unofficial?? Well if you’re an avid Pokémon GO player and fan you’ll know that Niantic has already hosted events for Japan and America. And of course recently they’ve been hosting events at various malls in Europe. So with Africa being left out of it all, even with region exclusives, its up to the fans to host something. YES there wasn’t anything on offering as you’d find at official events hosted by Niantic but the event was tons of fun and the venue was absolutely stunning – Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Johannesburg South Africa. Now before we move on I feel that I need to point out that there were multiple events run across the day in multiple locations across the country. Being a resident of Johannesburg though you can understand why I attended the one at Walter Sisulu. However I’m sure the other regions in the country had just as much fun as we did.
So what was it like…well lets just say that it was LIT! Every Pokéstop had a Lure on it and I ran out of Pokéballs within the first 30 minutes of being there. The spawns were incredible in number and the place seems to be a Voltorb spawn spot. Unfortunately there was a HUGE lack of legendary raids on the day…as in not a single one! BUT nevertheless it was tons of fun seeing so many Pokémon GO trainers of all ages out and about and I even managed to catch a few rare monsters.
A HUGE THANKS TO MY PARTNER IN CRIME “M.R.” a.k.a “AGENT R” FOR JOINING ME ON THE DAY AND DRIVING US TO THE VENUE.
Be sure to check some photos I grabbed from the vids I took on the day.
